Music in ancient Chinese civilization

 Music in ancient China is a fundamental part of its culture and has been an integral part of its history for millennia. Music in China is believed to have a history of more than 5000 years and that it has evolved over time, going through different styles and currents throughout its history. This lesson will explore the origin, styles, and currents of music in ancient China, as well as some examples of music, instrumentation, musical technique and performance, and composition  

Music in ancient China used a wide variety of instruments, which were divided into four main categories: string instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments, and keyboard instruments.

String instruments:

The most common stringed instruments were the guqin, the pipa, the guzheng, and the erhu. The guqin was a plucked string instrument that was used in ceremonies and at the imperial court. The pipa was a plucked string instrument that was used 

Percussion instruments:

The most common percussion instruments were the bianzhong, bo, gu, yun and drum. The bianzhong was a set of bronze bells that was used in classical music and the imperial court. The bo was a large drum that was used in popular music and in the imperial court. The gu was a small drum that was used in classical music and at the imperial court. The yun was a set of percussion instruments composed of small bells
